Oh What A Night
Leeds United 2 Norwich City 1
It is safe to assume that Norwich manager Paul Lambert was upset after seeing his side robbed of at least a point with a 92 minute goal from Jermaine Beckford. To compound matters it came as a result of a dreadful goal kick from the otherwise reliable goalkeeper Frazer Forester who presented Becks with a one on one that he duly converted. In all truth Leeds could and should have been two down after 15 minutes but for two excellent saves from Shane Higgs who went off shortly afterwards with a leg injury. As happens against the run of play Leeds took the lead when from a Snodgrass corner Bradley Johnson rode highest at the back post to power home a superb header.
Norwich came storming back and on 38 minutes Grant Holt rose above goalscorer Johnston to head home the equalizer. For over half an hour in the second half it was all Norwich and Casper Ankergren brought off two great saves in the Leeds goal to keep them in the game. When loan signing Max Gradel a late signing on Monday evening from Leicester City came on in the 79th minute for Snodgrass the came completely changed.
Indeed the sponsors of the game awarded Gradel the Man of The Match award for those ten minutes such was his contribution. He tormented the Norwich defence with his pace and made two telling passes which Becks should have converted. One wonders why he did'nt start the game as he gave us with a pace, two things defenders hate. Yes we got out of jail as in truth this was a very poor home display but on such games are Leagues won. We'll take the three points and march on to the New Den and Millwall on Saturday.
