Late Late Show From Max

Posted by Johnny on Wednesday, 25 November 2009

Leeds United 1 Leyton Orient 0

One could call it an inspired substitution by Simon Grayson when he sent on Max Gradel with nine minutes to go in the hope that Leeds would sneak a goal against a very stubborn Orient side. Like a good fairytail Max climbed off the bench to snatch an 89th-minute winner that sees Leeds retain a six point lead at the top of the League One table and keep their 20 game unbeaten home league record intact.

It was not a convincing victory, but on-loan Gradel ( from Leicester City) settled the match when he turned inside the box leaving two defenders in his wake and fired home from 12 yards. Orient thought they had got the opener before that through Sean Thornton, but the referee ruled Andros Townsend had taken his free-kick set-up too quickly.

It's these type of games that will get us promoted when playing poorly we still manage that bit of class to capture the three points. With Charlton and Colchester also winning this has to be seen as a great result.
