We're Off To Old Trafford

Leeds United 5 Kettering Town 1 2nd Rd FA Cup

After Extra Time

Leeds were taken to extra-time against non league Kettering before sealing a third-round FA Cup tie against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the first week of January. Argentinian Luciano Becchio headed the home team in front on 20 minutes as Leeds dominated the first hour, with the scorer hitting the post and player manager Lee Harper making several saves. Leeds were undone just after the hour mark when former player Anthony Elding headed Kettering level from a right wing cross from Richie Partridge against the run of play.

There was little to choose between the two sides in the first half of extra-time but after the restart Leeds took control with four goals in 11 minutes to ensure the tie would not go to a penalty shoot-out. Leeds took control in the second half of extra-time when substitute Tresor Kandol heading home between two strikes from Mike Grella before Jermaine Beckford struck. So despite the small crowd at Elland Road, the miserable night and going to extra time the reward for Grayson's men is a trip to arch rivals Man U in the new year. A least having played Liverpool earlier this year in the League Cup we can now pit ourselves against the top team in Britian. Marching On Together.
